SPECIAL: Oil Change in Mooresville including 5 Quarts of Oil* Starting at $40!
As your car’s engine runs, the different parts are all moving and rubbing against each other. This generates friction, which causes the engine to heat up. The oil in your engine lubricates things to cut down on that friction and prevent it from overheating. Over time, however, the oil becomes clogged with soot and loses effectiveness when it comes to reducing friction. Because of this, an essential part of car maintenance is the regular oil change. Some drivers take care of this procedure themselves, but those who want the best results have it done at a mechanic shop like ours here at Two Fingers Automotive.
Many drivers feel confident enough in their mechanical skills to perform their own oil changes, but while this may save them a little bit of money, it costs them in time, sweat, and mess. If you want a simple, convenient way to make sure that your car stays in good working order that doesn’t require you to get down under the car, we encourage you to turn to our team at Two Fingers Automotive. We have over 25 years of experience repairing and maintaining cars, and we’ll get your oil changed in no time so that you can return to the road in confidence. Most experts recommend getting an oil change every 5,000 miles, but our team can help you determine the ideal schedule for your vehicle based on your specific driving habits.
We at Two Fingers Automotive are proud to serve the Mooresville, North Carolina community, and we want to help you keep your engine running as safely and efficiently as possible. Next time you need an oil change, just stop by our shop to get it taken care of.

Frequently Asked Questions About Oil Change Mooresville, North Carolina
Question: Why are oil changes important? –Lindsey, Mooresville, NC
Answer: Although engine lubrication technology has evolved considerably since 1980, your car’s oil won’t last forever. High temperatures and the heavy friction caused by the moving parts in your engine rubbing against each other cause even the most advance synthetic blend oil to break down over time. Keeping up with oil changes is an important part of keeping your vehicle running smoothly and reliably for years to come, and is a key part of automobile maintenance to help prevent expensive and unnecessary repairs to your engine. Oil changes can even help keep your exhaust systems working better and reduce strain on your belts, minimizing the likelihood of needing serpentine belt replacements and other parts before their service lives expire. There are even mobile app oil change reminders available!
Question: How often should you check your oil? –Deonte, Indian Trail, NC
Answer: Two Fingers Automotive recommends you always check your oil when you fill your gas tank. It’s quick, easy and can save you a lot of time, money and frustration down the road. If you’ve never checked engine oil before, here’s how you do it:
- Pull out the oil dipstick and wipe it clean. If you’re not sure where the dipstick is, look for either a plastic handle with the oil symbol on it or a colored pull ring, usually red, blue or yellow. If you don’t see any of these, check your vehicle owner’s manual for the location of the dipstick.
- Reinsert the dipstick and wait at least ten seconds.
- Pull the dipstick out and hold it up to the light. The dipstick should be marked with a “Full” line and a “replace” line. If your oil level is closer to “replace” than “full,” you need to start thinking about an oil change. If your oil is lower than it should be given when you last had it changed, you may have a system leak which needs to be repaired.
- How does the oil look? Good oil will be bright, golden in color and smooth in appearance. If your oil looks dark or you see particulates on the dipstick, it’s time for an oil change. Note: If you notice metal shavings on the dipstick, you need to get your car into a shop immediately! Metal shavings in your oil are a telltale sign of increased friction between engine parts and could be a warning sign of major problems on the way. Don’t take chances!
- Replace the dipstick. If the oil looks good and the fill level is okay, you’re good to go. If you see any of the warning signs above, be sure to schedule appointment maintenance as soon as possible to help ensure your vehicle runs great for years to come.
Question: How often do I need to change the oil in my vehicle? –Justine, Sherills Ford, NC
Answer: Most modern cars and oils allow drivers to go 5,000 or six months, whichever comes first, between changes. Some vehicles are going as much as 15,000 miles between oil changes! Your vehicle’s owner’s manual will tell you what the manufacturer recommends for both service timing and what oil you should use. Adhering to manufacturer recommendations is vitally important to get the maximum life from your vehicle and maintain the validity of your vehicle’s warranty.
Question: I’ve heard engine oil needs to be replaced every 3,000 miles. Is this true? –Geoffrey, Indian Trail, NC
Answer: For older vehicles which require conventional motor oil for whatever reason, yes, this is true. However, modern full synthetic oil is generally compatible with any engine, and newer oil blends will get you a minimum of 5,000 miles or six months between changes. Unfortunately, many car care centers continue to stick to the old-school 3,000 miles/three months rule because that means they make more money, even with the “special limited time” oil change coupons with whicj the big chains love to flood your mailbox. But the truth is, unless you’re driving a Lamborghini, Ferrari or similar high-performance vehicle, you should be okay with synthetic oil.
Question: Does regularly changing my oil filter help with the life of my engine? –Trina, Salisbury, NC
Answer: Your oil filter should be changed every time your oil is changed. Some shade-tree mechanics and amateur grease monkey hobbyists try to reuse the oil filter to save a minute and a couple of bucks. What the average grease monkey either doesn’t realize or doesn’t care about is the fact if you don’t change the oil filter at the same time you change the oil, all the gunk and sludge the filter is designed to trap and remove stay in your system. The filter can only take so much, and when it can’t hold anymore, all that garbage is free to float around your engine, causing friction and wearing down your motor. For a thorough oil change which really gets the job done, call us at Two Fingers Automotive today to make an appointment and get directions. Our trained ASE-certified technicians are here to keep your steering, engine, fuel systems and more going strong while always delivering peak performance and safety. From tires to brake pad to transmission and everything in between, Two Fingers has got you covered!
Question: Should I consider using synthetic motor oil in my vehicle? –Bryson, Newton, NC
Answer: Nowadays, places which use conventional motor oil are becoming a niche market. Synthetic oils with engine detergent and other additives to improve vehicle life, safety and performance have become the default option. In fact, it’s possible, even likely, that your car is using synthetic oil right now and you may not even have known it. Unless your vehicle has unusually specific requirements in what type of oil is used in it, you should be able to use synthetic oil just fine.
Question: Why is keeping up with regular oil changes so crucial, and how does your car benefit when you schedule oil change service at Two Fingers Automotive? –Mikaela, Kannapolis, NC
